Think Local Amarillo supports a very specific, very unique business model- that of the independent business who does not have the benefit of a preferred vendor list, specially negotiated vendor pricing, corporate office access, and a regionally/nationally recognized brand name and the branding that comes with it. They are also not required to follow guidelines set by people or organizations that do not live and work within our community. Our ideal customers are the mom and pops who started from the ground up to create an Amarillo branded business with no help from a chain, franchise model or brand name. We consider them the heart and soul of our community and what makes Amarillo unique! Businesses must meet these criteria to join our network of local businesses.

  1. Private, employee, community or cooperative ownership.
  2. Not registered as or associated with a franchise, chain or carry a national brand name. Cannot be a MLM business.
  3. At least 50% owned in Amarillo, Texas with no corporate or national headquarters outside of Texas.
  4. Full decision making function for the business is held by the local owner(s), including name, signage, brand, appearance, purchasing, etc.
  5. The business is solely responsible for paying its own rent, marketing, and other expenses.

*The definition of "independent" and the resulting guidelines by Think Local Amarillo were created based on widely recognized standards as defined by the two largest and most highly respected Buy Local organizations in the country: BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies) and AMIBA (American Independent Business Alliance).
