Candles and Toys, Oh My!

CB Boutique and Amarillo Candle Company Join Together in
A Bright, Fun New Location In Westgate Mall

Two powerhouse woman-owned businesses will be joining forces for this 2019 Fall/Holiday season. Nicole Ballin of CB Boutique and Yvonne Chaney of Amarillo Candle Company will be sharing the old Things Remembered space in Westgate Mall October 1st through the end of the year.

Nicole Ballin’s inspiration for her business has always been her three daughters Kairah, Kalee and Payton. Having three daughters calls for alot of activities and alot of hair accessories. Nicole always found that store bought hair bows were expensive and cheaply made, so she bought some ribbon and began making her own. She sat at her daughters’ various basketball and soccer practices when they were little, making adorable bows for them and their friends. Nicole began growing a devoted following of mothers and daughters who wanted to purchase her custom bows. So in 2011, she created a Facebook page and began selling them at the flea market and local craft shows. Not only could Nicole make a completely unique and custom hair bow, but her bows are made with quality ribbon and quality clips, are hand sewn as well as glued and are guaranteed not to fall apart.

One year into the flea market, Nicole landed a small bow holder space at Vintage Living. She was given a larger space as the demand for her bows grew. In October 2014, she took the leap and opened her own boutique, CB Boutique, at 2710 Civic Circle. As Nicole continued to draw a following of dedicated bow lovers, she added “mommy and me” outfits, then newborn clothes and accessories and finally women’s clothing and shoes. As CB Boutique began busting at the seams, Nicole took on the location of the old Lingerie Allure at 2819 Civic Circle the day after Christmas in 2016. The location was remodeled and now has sections for preemie, infant, toddler, preteen, ladies, shoes, accessories, toys and even a section for men.

While on a vacation with her daughters in 2017, Nicole came across a tiny Build A Bear in the Rain Forest Cafe. Nicole researched having a similar stuffed animal unit in her store. So in September 2017, Nicole added the Cuddle Buddy Station with animals, stuffing and all the clothes and accessories to create custom stuffed animals. Along with the Cuddle Buddy Station, CB Boutique created a party room in the back for a Cuddle Buddy birthday party which gives Amarillo a new and unique party venue for kids!

CB Boutique will be running an expanded toy workshop in their half of the new mall location. They will carry Melissa &  Doug toys, Yummy Gummy accessories, stuffed animals and their Cuddle Buddy Station. You will be able to buy a Cuddle Buddy house with a gift certificate to give as gifts for your special little ones this Christmas!

Yvonne Chaney of Amarillo Candle Company has gotten to live her entrepreneurial dream through hard work, faith and the support of her husband Don. Yvonne and Don married in September 2009. After watching Yvonne work 14-16 hour days as the Manager of Baker Bros. then Jason’s Deli, Don asked Yvonne what she dreamt of doing. Yvonne had always been curious about making candles. Yvonne describes her husband as a man who likes to “fix problems”, so Don bought her a candle making kit.

For 6 years Yvonne worked a full time job, made candles in her kitchen and constantly participated in craft shows all over the Panhandle. Word got around about her candles and people began leaving empty jars and containers on her porch for her to fill with wax.

Yvonne researched, studied and practiced her candle making craft and it took 3 years to perfect her candle “formula”. Through trial and error, she pinpointed the best type of wax, the best wick size and perfect ratio of wax to scent. Yvonne’s candles are made with soy wax from soy beans, not paraffin, making her wax 100% biodegradable.

In September 2014, Yvonne was denied requested time off for a preplanned hunting trip so after working full time at Jason’s Deli and building a successful candle business in her kitchen, she decided it was time to take the leap to full time business owner. Don likes to say “my wife quit her job to go hunting”. Their current location on 6th Street, East of Georgia, was found and remodeled. Don built all of the shelves and Yvonne stocked them with candles, melt tabs and room sprays to officially open Amarillo Candle Company on May 22, 2015.

In 2018, Yvonne bought the building they were in and expanded their store to double in size. With the larger space, they began making a bath and body section to include bath bombs, bath salts, body creme, body scrubs and lip scrubs.

Today, Amarillo Candle Company has over 200 fragrances. Some of the most popular fragrances are “Cowgirl”, which is a leather/vanilla combination, “Blueberry Cobbler”, “Butt Naked”, which has a tropical scent and “White Nectarine & Pink Coral”. All of these scents are also available in melt tabs and room and car sprays. They also have an evergrowing bath and body section, wholesale their products to over 10 retailers, offer a fundraising program and have a plan to franchise in the near future. You can purchase in their store at 2300 SW 6th, their new Westgate Mall location or on their website at

Nicole and Yvonne met when Nicole contacted Yvonne about carrying her candles in her new boutique back in 2015. They quickly became friends with a mutual respect for each other’s work ethic. The two ladies would each grow their businesses based on hard work and excellent customer service. Each business flourished on social media as they both grew quite a following. Today the two highly successful businesses are ready to go to the next level with a combined 2nd location in Westgate Mall. Their new location will officially open Tuesday, October 1st with regular mall hours of Monday-Saturday 10:00am-9:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm-6:00pm.
